Dr Narinder Powar’s Story
“I started my Chiropractic vocation after pursuing a number of other career paths involving Pharmaceutical sales, statistical analysis and teaching. At age 19, I was involved in a bad car accident, during which I sustained severe whiplash injuries. Unfortunately at the time, this was mismanaged and I was advised to wear a collar for 4 months day and night, which ultimately lead me to experience extreme pain, weakness and instability around my neck and upper body, not to mention the daily headaches and loss of sleep. Knowing no better at the time, I went through the next 3-4 years just getting by on painkillers and avoidance behaviour.
It wasn’t until 4 years later whilst I was doing a sales job involving a lot of driving, which was very difficult with a barely mobile neck, that I was introduced to Chiropractic. A colleague of mine had had long standing low back pain, for which he had been to visit a Chiropractor. On hearing his positive experience, I was willing to give Chiropractic a go, even though at the time I hadn’t even heard of it. I had tried everything else at this point, so had nothing to lose.
The rest as they say is history. After the first few sessions I could actually move my neck without pain and the headaches and my sleep started to improve. The improvements were so life changing, I felt the fog had cleared from my head and I had a life again. In fact I was so blown away, that it drew me to make a huge sacrifice and leave my home, current career and lifestyle and go back to being a student, to pursue the 5 year degree course to becoming a Chiropractor.
I believe this is what makes me so passionate about my work, having had this experience myself and now knowing I could help transform other people’s quality of life too. I feel very fortunate to be in a profession and pursuing a career that I absolutely love and I feel so rewarded everyday knowing the difference I can make in peoples lives. I am very pleased to say that I feel just as passionate about my work 20 years on, as I did after newly graduating. In a nutshell I feel so grateful for having discovered Chiropractic.”
